Artist Statement: William Hawkins Hunter
My primary process is transforming individual images or objects into complex and meaningful compositions. Collecting found objects has been an interest of mine my entire life. Collecting allows me to be open to new discoveries while searching for specific materials. In my work, chance and control have weight in the evolution of my ideas. I draw from a large body of material including photography, printed media, toys, and textiles.

The Zoot Gallery pieces that I will be showing were inspired by a collection of images from a number of eras. The subjects are often taken out of their original context, allowing them to be open to a number of interpretations ranging from the sacred to the profane, depending on the viewer.
