Hans Küng in his book Art and the Question of Meaning states,”...art should be--may it be!---human, truly human, humane---humanity...let the supreme norm for human art be, not conformity to tradition, not novelty or actuality, but humanity:  a humanity grounded, protected, and secretly secure in divinity; a humanity which has practical consequences for human fellowship, for relations with our fellow men and with nature.”

Art is for me a form of worship, a way to connect with the spiritual essence we all are. For many peoples in the world the art expression is an integral part of the life of the community as a whole. It is not a separate activity from the every day things people do.  The arts help to bind a community together;  a sense of unity is created.  A distinction must be made between uniformity and unity.  Uniformity is deadening, demanding a monotonous sameness.  In unity there is harmonious relation.   Photography, as with all artistic expressions are the paths to this realization.  The artist when pursuing the creative medium is often doing os in isolation from others.  But they  draw inspiration from those relationships they have whether  human, nature or divine.  (in fact these are all manifestations of the same essence)  What , in my mind, makes a creative work become art is when it is shared with others.  Before being shared it is great therapy for the artist.  The act of sharing .  Art in its pure form gives glimpses into and direction toward the future for humanity.  Küng again details “its particular service to man consists in symbolizing, without cold comfort or false solemnity, what is not yet, how man and society might be, what man’s yearning  awaits:  in this world of purposes and constraints, a free space for the element of play which leaves open all possibilities.”
