Susan Burrows Dabney

August 2006 - December 2006
August 17 , 2006 | 5 - 8 pm

“Painted Preservations” is a show by Susan Burrows Dabney painted at locations around the world. It focuses on capturing the essence of the land before either Dabney’s visit is over or the land changes with development. It is the premier show for the Zoot Enterprises Gallery and encompasses over 70 pieces of work from all around the world.

Susan Burrows Dabney’s passion is the land-its beauty and its bounty whether out in the bitter and wonderful cold of the winter or the warm rich colors of the fall. “For me, the only way to paint such magnificence is to physically be set up outside with my easel and the vista in front of me ready to be painted. Plein air painting is magical, dangerous, thrilling, and quiet, and always influenced by whatever weather comes through. Everything changes all the time and it is my intent to capture the magic of it all,” Dabney says.

In a recent interview of Dabney, Michele Corriel wrote the following: “Susan Burrows Dabney paints from the heart. Fierce but contained brush strokes breathe deeply of color and the natural surprises of land. Movement produced through the opening and closing of a steady palette. Pooled light, dense with paint and accidental inclusions, like bits of sand or tiny caddis wings.”
